Games We’ve Played and Recommend

We do our research. Each title listed below is a game that we’ve played at one of our actual events in Chengdu, and certify as being a lot of fun in a multiplayer environment. In particular, we are looking for games multiplayer games which work in a social environment, with particular focus on games that feature:

  • Unique and distinctive art style and presentation
  • Dynamic gameplay that stands the test of time
  • Easy to follow on-screen action enjoyable for spectators
  • Elements which encourage you to yell at each other and at the screen, in a good way

We wrote a short description for each game and included a single image along with links to learn more. We encourage you to support the developers of these games and you can purchase all of the games below on Steam, our preferred platform for independent games. These games are listed in no particular order.

A 3D local-multiplayer game exclusive to the Playstation 4 that features what looks like fat midgets playing baseball. We haven’t played it before, but this should be good.

A 4-player archery combat game. Navigate an arena and eliminate foes by targeting them with arrows which lend you different abilities. Fast and furious gameplay.

A modern game made with the aesthetic and gameplay mechanics of old-school arcade shooters, Geometry Wars is one of the prettiest and most hectic multiplayer games we know of.

A 4-player competitive game where you control a space-faring Narwhal and fight against others. Tripped out visuals and hilarious combat are defining features in this game.

Nidhogg

One of our favorite multiplayer games, Nidhogg is a 2-player fencing game. The objective of the game is to obtain the “right of way” by fencing through or evading your opponent. Charmingly retro visuals combine with deep and satisfying strategic combat in this game.

Broforce is a 4-player side scrolling shooter game similar to Contra, with destructible environments. Play as Stallone, Schwarzenegger, Chuck Norris, Blade, or a dozen other bros as you dodge massive explosions to overcome bosses across dozens of stages. There are many American flags in this game.

A 4-player combat game where each player controls a gun and sword-toting samurai warrior. Twitchy gameplay and the retro aesthetic reminds us of Nidhogg.

A combination of Tetris, with blocks falling, and a shooting game where you eliminate blocks in your lane to drop them on an opponent. Feels familiar and fresh at the same time.
